‘Tis the Season for Dings and Dents

Dings and dents are the norm for many busy Stark County residents. Having a pristine body, doors and paint job on our cars, SUVs, trucks or minivans seems like ancient history for most … or, at least it hasn’t been reality since the day we drove our brand new beauties off the lot.

Whether it’s inside your two-car garage, in the parking lot at the mall, or while you’ve stopped at the coffee shop for a travel cup on the way to work or at the pizza shop on your way home for dinner, there are countless places — and ways — to get all sorts of dings and dents on your car.

You can get dings and dents close to home in the parking lot at the school while at a basketball game or far away at the soccer field watching your child’s travel team game.

It doesn’t matter if it’s winter, spring, summer or fall — any time of the year is dings and dents season.

Believe it or not, there are several things you can control when it comes to your car’s body and paint. Here are three simple rules to help keep your ride out of harm’s way when it comes to dings and dents:

1. Pay attention to your surroundings
When parking, be sure to take a look at the car next to you. Does it seem like it’s in good condition? Does it look like the driver would want to avoid dings and dents? Don’t try to squeeze into a spot that only looks large enough for a Smart Car.

2. Open your door with care
We’re always in a hurry to get wherever we’re going, but taking a moment to pause before exiting your vehicle can help you avoid dings and dents in your door. And remind your kids to do the same, even if it’s just in the garage.

3. Don’t be afraid to walk a little further
Your doctor or nurse will tell you; walking more is good for you. Well, it turns out it can be good for your paint job, too. Instead of the closest spot in the parking lot or right along the third-base line, the far-off open spaces might just be the right spots to help you avoid dings and dents.

Of course, dings and dents will occur. And when they do, be sure to find your local I-Car Gold certified collision repair shop to receive the best, certified auto body repair service available.
